Originally scheduled for October 3rd and subsequently started and aborted due to torrential rain on that date, round 5 of the Inline garage services kart series ran on Sunday, thankfully this time in merely damp but bright conditions.
It was a race to turn the form book upside down with the previously unplaced Mark Gaskin (Penrith) taking Victory from his brother John (Chop gate) with Mark Asher third.
Qualifying on Pole was John Gaskin 0.4 seconds ahead of mark with Asher third a sliver 0.1 behind. The main Class contenders were well adrift with Malcolm McPhie (Hutton Rudby) 7th, Chris Roe (Redcar) 10th and Colin Peacock (Ingleby Barwick)a dismal14th after 2 trips to the pits in qualifying.
Only 3 laps were completed before a red flag brought the race to a halt as Dave Brownridge’s (Billingham) kart was recovered from a high speed trip in to the tyre wall, after braking on a wet kerb in the esses speared the kart off the track. He recovered to the restart but retired later with damaged steering.
At the restart, the lead trio pulled an unassailable advantage over the pack and as Peacock worked through the field in a now on song kart he caught and eventually passed McPhie to take fourth.
Fastest race lap went to Chris Fish on lap 16 with a time of 1.30.819
As the championship moves to the final round on November 21st the overall title is almost certain for the very popular Ahmed Sabir who claimed another class B win. The Class A series is hotly contested and following this result John Gaskin is now one of 4 drivers who can take the class win.
A Sabir 57, J Mawer 48, C Roe, S Harmswoth 34, M McPhie 30,
J Gaskin 28, C Peacock28
each driver has also to drop 1 result from the 6 races so lots can change.
